There could be several different causes of stillbirth. Rh
disease could be a factor. If the mother is Rh negative and the child is Rh positive,
the mother's immune system could attack the fetus and cause severe complications and
sometimes death. A bacterial infection could cause a stillbirth. There could be
chromosomal abberrations including two few or two many chromosomes. These chromosomal
changes have far reaching implications and usually end up with a stillbirthIf the mother
has high blood pressure, it can cause a stillbirth. If the umbilical cord is compressed
and blood flow is restricted to the fetus, the lack of oxygen to the child could result
in stillbirth. Maternal diabetes is another risk factor. Use of recreational drugs can
be another reason. Sometimes birth defects can contribute such as under developed lungs
in the fetus. These are all reasons that a full term baby could be a
stillborn.
