I think the most important achievement that Augustus
accomplished was to create peace. He mentions this fact in sections 12 and 13. This is
an important point to make for two reasons. First, Rome for a few generations have been
in civil war. Imagine the destruction to life and property! The Romans were devastated
by other Romans. So, what people wanted more than anything else was peace. Augustus was
able to provide. Second, it was on account of peace that Augustus was able to do so many
other things, such as revive religion, build temples and reconstruct Roman civilization.
He wanted people to know this about him. In my opinion, I would agree with Augustus. The
most important thing he accomplished was to create a stable government. What can we do
without peace?
