Though the question is a bit hard to interpret, I would
consider it this way:
Massed practice, in which the entire
team works together on specific tactical situations or plays or even scrimmages to work
on game-specific skills are often a part of most
practices.
The distributed practice may in fact focus on
more specific skills within the game that cannot be accurately recreated or effectively
recreated in the massed setting. This could be something like free-throws in basketball
or penalty kicks in football. By distributing the team into smaller groups, a more
intense focus can be placed on those specific skills rather than putting all the skills
together at the same time as in a scrimmage or more game-similar type
situation.
