Carbon 12, carbon 13 and carbon 14 are isotopes of carbon.
Isotopes have the same number of electrons and protons but they differ in the number of
neutrons they have. This makes the chemical characteristics of these variants the same.
Therefore the two similarities of all the three is the number of electrons and the
number of protons that they have.
Carbon 12 and carbon 13
are stable forms and do not change over time. Carbon 14 decays over time and this
characteristic is used for radioactive dating to find the age of very old compounds that
contain carbon.
