What part of a textbook should you use to search for information?5th grade student is looking for african mammal in his text book . To better...

If these are the two choices, then of course this student
should go to the index and not to the glossary.  The glossary is not really going to
help him find out very much at all.

The glossary only gives
definitions for various words in a book.  In this case, the student might be able to
find out what a mammal is from the glossary.

However, if
the student wants to know about mammals in Africa specifically, the glossary will not do
much good.  He will need to look in the index under mammals and then Africa or he might
try Africa and then mammals (if the index has subheadings).  Anyway, the index will show
him where to find information about Africa and/or mammals.  The glossary will
not.
