Suggest the possible dangers of permanently raised blood pressure. This question contains 3 marks. Please explain in detail.

Blood pressure is the pressure that blood exerts against
the walls of arteries. For proper function and maintenance of body health the blood
pressure must be maintained within a given range. Blood pressure, called hypertension in
medical term refers to condition when blood pressure is raised above normal limits
permanently or for extended periods.

Heart pressure is
often called a silent killer because in most cases it produces no noticeable symptoms
and remains undetected for long periods until dangerous complications occur. The danger
of permanently high blood pressure include bursting of some arteries, hardening of the
arteries, making the heat work harder increasing the risk of heart attack, and kidney
failure by reducing the flow of blood in kidneys.

Bursting
and hardening of arteries leads to many different complications depending on the
particular artery affected. For example, most strokes strokes result from damage to the
blood vessels caused by high blood pressure hardening of the arteries. Similarly heart
attack may be caused by blockage of blood supply to heart due hardening of artery
supplying blood to the heart.
