The poem "Because I Could Not Stop for Death" is a
beautiful poem that depicts death as a person who comes to collect a person who has
died. The poem tells the story as seen through the eyes of the dead person. Death is
kind and mannerly and comes to collect the person in his
carriage.
While on the journey to the place Death is
taking the person, Death guides the carriage past places the person recalls in past and
present. The carriage ride is peaceful and memorable. The person in the end of the
poem has been dead for awhile, but continues to recall her last carriage ride with
death.
One of the important features of the poem is that
Death is personified.
