A reflection statement is a "looking back" experience. If
it is in regard to a piece of literature, then your personal reaction to the story is
being sought. Your statement will show self-awareness to some experience in the story
that touched you. This experience should assist you in your personal growth, recognizing
the role you play in life, knowledge you have acquired, the impact on your life and/or
insight into the lives of others. All of these should relate specific details from the
story.
If your reflection statement is about a portfolio
evaluation, you should choose several pieces of writing (which will be referred to as
artifacts) to show your growth as a writer. Tell why those particular artifacts were
chosen and how these writings have helped you reach your goal as a writer. Include some
of the topics mentioned in reflecting on a piece of literature as
well.
